Artists Talk About A Handmade World

Yesterday I ventured out into the pouring rain to check out the Coraline Artist Panel at Gallery Nucleus.
I got there around 2pm and it was crowded. It was great seeing that many people interested in what the Artists had to say. On the panel were: Andy Schuhler, Chris Appelhans, Dan Krall, Jon Klassen, Shane Prigmore and Shannon Tindle.
They showed many samples of their work, some full renderings that weren’t used in the movie and some loose sketches. They talked about the making of the movie, Henry Selick’s vision, how they became a part of Coraline and about their own work. I wish I had a better seat, I was on the floor off to the side.
All of them were genuinely excited about working on Coraline. Their stories were great to hear. They were all in awe of the animators and of Mr. Selick. It didn’t matter that some of them weren’t included in the credits. They were just happy to be a part of this amazing movie.
