I can’t explain why I’m fascinated by images of abandoned buildings. Especially when they’re left almost intact with furniture and personal belongings scattered about. Why do people leave them behind? What made them leave in such a hurry? I’d love to explore these places myself, but am scared shitless of actually going, so I’ll just live my life vicariously through these blogs. Enjoy.

A Couple Hours Wasted

Of course my impatient self could not choose a new look. I was looking for something simple. I found a couple, but they weren’t working for me and I know nothing about CSS or HTML to fix it. I know, it’s easy to figure out, but I have no patience. I admit it. I downloaded a couple other themes, I just need to make a decision, but not now. It’s time for lunch.

Update, 10pm. Looks like I’ll try this theme for awhile. What do you think?

Yes, I’m still alive. It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything. Sorry. I’ve been busy with the Japan Film Festival, freelance and I had a hard time recovering from a cold. Or maybe it was stress, whatever it was, it’s gone. I hope.

I wanted to share SuperFuture with you. When I was planning our trip to Tokyo in 2005 I came across their site. The maps are great, they also post reviews and upcoming events. They have maps for other cities as well. It’s great for shopping and dining. The two things I love to do while traveling. I wish I had printed them out for our trip to Europe. Oh well there’s always next time.

A New Year’s Tradition

Ever since my kids were young, I’ve been taking them to view the Rose Parade floats. We always watch the building and decorating of the South Pasadena float and have volunteered a couple times. We’ve even been stuck in traffic behind one of the floats as they’re driven down the city streets.

Around 11pm on New Year’s Eve, we bundle up in warm clothing and head out to Orange Grove Boulevard. There’s always a crowd. This is where we usually celebrate the New Year, drinking champagne on the sidewalk. I guess I start off every year with a 3 mile walk. Too bad I don’t walk that much on a regular basis throughout the year.

Winding down 2008

For the last couple of years a couple of my aunts and an uncle from San Francisco have been spending New Years here in LA. We usually have brunch at the Tea Room in the Huntington Library on New Year’s Eve. This year we did it differently, we went to Din Tai Fung for dumplings.

We got there around 2pm and there was still a crowd waiting to be seated. Ordered a couple plates of dumplings, fried rice, sauteed spinach and the braised beef noodle soup. It was so good. If you’re ever in Los Angeles, you really should check it out.

Since it was still early, we drove over to the Huntington Library to check out the Chinese garden, last year it was still in construction. The weather was perfect, not too hot, not too cold. Because there was only an hour left until closing there wasn’t much of a crowd. Although all the plants were in winter mode, it was still very beautiful. I’ll have to come back during the spring when the flowers are in full bloom.

Now what will I read?

For the past year I’ve been a regular reader of PingMag. I’ve enjoyed their articles about Japan, art, architecture and local artisans. It been an inspiration for me and now they’ve decided to call it a day.

Anybody know of any good art blogs I can read? Preferably ones in English.

Welcome! This is my first post. Geez took me 15 minutes just to think of something to put in “About”. How the hell will I be able to blog on a regular basis? Anyways, good luck understanding what my brain is thinking.
